Department of Aviation Helicopter Program

2009 - 2010 Projected Individual Flight Training Costs

The University of North Dakota Department of Aviation supports a fleet of over 100 aircraft including helicopters. Helicopter training is available to students for college credit. Flight training in rotorcraft can replace the fixed wing course requirements in the six four-year aviation majors available at UND.

Because of costs, helicopter course availability and career options, it is strongly suggested students interested in helicopter flight training seriously consider obtaining fixed-wing certificates and ratings initially, and then add on the helicopter training.

Contract flight training (not part of a college degree program) may also be available depending on the need of the individual or agency.

Because helicopter flight training is a relatively small segment of UND’s total flight training program, helicopter courses are offered on an “on demand” basis only. A sufficient number of students are needed before the course(s) will be offered.

The following is a summary of projected helicopter flight costs. Please keep in mind that these are cost estimates based upon the curriculum outline. These costs may vary considerably from student to student according to their capability and motivation. Financial aid may be available to assist with these costs, but the student must plan accordingly. These costs are in addition to regular tuition, room and board, and personal expenses. All flight costs are subject to change without notice. Estimated course costs do not include potential fuel surcharge, which may be implemented pending market conditions.
